Only available for Clinical Rotations during the Summer Semester

Wilmington Maternal Fetal Medicine – Wilmington, NC

This is a prenatal clinic providing genetic counseling for referrals such as advanced maternal age, positive maternal serum screening results, ultrasound abnormalities and family histories. The genetic counseling student will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of prenatal genetic counseling in our clinic, including all logbook roles.

The proportion of participatory versus observatory interaction will be dependent upon the amount of clinical experience obtained by the student prior to this clinical rotation.

We would like to allow as much participatory activity as possible for each student on a case by case basis. The genetic counseling student will be expected to document their activities in this rotation through a personal case log. He or she will also have the opportunity to document their activities through pedigrees, clinic notes and patient letters.

The student will have the opportunity to participate in ancillary activities of our clinic including staff meetings and presentations, Hospital Grand Rounds, any appropriate resident lectures, Tumor Board conferences, and any applicable local or regional meetings occurring at the time of the rotation.
