Clinical Rotation at Laboratory Corporation of America

LabCorp – Laboratory Genetic Counseling, Research Triangle Park, NC

Students interested in exploring laboratory genetic counseling applications may choose to perform one rotation at LabCorp working with board certified genetic counselors in cytogenetics and molecular genetics laboratories. Students are exposed to various aspects of commercial laboratory sample processing, testing and result interpretation.

Students will call out normal and abnormal results to various health care professionals and field related questions. They will be involved with results interpretation and report generation as well as educational opportunities and upcoming laboratory testing initiatives. Students are exposed to testing for numerous clinical indications and genetic disorders.

Learning experiences from this rotation provide students with the opportunity to enhance professional skills proposed by the Accreditation Council of Genetic Counseling (ACGC) in a laboratory setting.
