Carolinas Medical Center North East – Prenatal Diagnosis Clinic, Concord, NC

The Women’s Institute at Carolinas Medical Center – NorthEast is a prenatal clinic staffed by two genetic counselors, sonographers and Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians.  Students have the opportunity to develop skills in providing the full spectrum of prenatal genetic counseling services to patients referred for advanced maternal age, abnormal prenatal serum screens, family history concerns, carrier screening, teratogenic exposures, maternal conditions, recurrent pregnancy loss, and abnormal ultrasound findings.  In addition, students have the opportunity to see patients in our larger prenatal clinic at Carolinas Medical Center – Main, where opportunity also exists to attend monthly genetics conferences.

Carolinas Medical Center North East – Cancer Genetics Clinic, Concord, NC

Batte Cancer Center offers the opportunity to work with a certified genetic counselor and seven medical oncologists in a high volume cancer clinic for a variety of cancer indications including breast, ovarian and colon cancers, FAP, leukemia and p53. Patients are referred for personal and family histories of cancer as well as known cancer predisposition syndromes. Students will have the opportunity to attend tumor board meetings and multidisciplinary breast cancer conferences. This comprehensive cancer center also offers a variety of professionals working in a healthcare delivery team for students to collaborate with in the provision of patient care.
