Brief Bio

Hi there! My name is Sophia Svoboda and I grew up in Chicago, Illinois. I graduated from University of Michigan in 2017 with a B.S. in microbiology after spending the majority of my undergraduate career as a lab assistant studying virology. I continued my work in the lab for one year after graduation but then decided to move to Taiwan to teach English and middle school science, which turned out to be one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I got to learn about a new culture, met so many wonderful students, and explored some really beautiful landscapes. I then moved back to the US and continued my journey in the world of research, working at Northwestern University as a research technician studying cell adhesion in the context of a rare genetic skin condition. I transitioned later to a role as a research study coordinator, focusing on improving patient education materials in a health literacy setting. In my spare time I love swimming laps at the pool, going to the beach, or paddleboarding on the lake. My husband and I also like taking our beautiful dog, Charlie, to Doggos as often as we can and cooking together at home. If you have any questions about UNCG, my experiences, or genetic counseling in general feel free to email me at [email protected]
