Brief Bio

Hi everyone! My name is Avia, and I am a first-year student. I was born in the US Virgin Islands with family there and from St. Kitts. I’ve spent a lot of time in Florida where I earned my undergraduate degree in 2020 from Nova Southeastern University in Behavioral Neuroscience and a minor in Medical Humanities. I just graduated from Tuskegee University with my Master’s in Public Health (MPH). During undergrad, I worked Residential life for a little over 2 years, and after I graduated, I became a Registered Behavioral Technician, working with children with Autism to help them reach their milestones. Through my MPH, I was able to connect and become a part of the Sepsis Alliance team as their Advocacy Intern where I aid in the development of advocacy materials for sepsis survivors and raise awareness surrounding sepsis. In 2021 I became a Clinical Research Coordinator and helped run an opioid use study where I supported patients along their recovery journey.

My research interests include Neurogenetics, reproductive advocacy and making genetic services available to marginalized communities. I am also the LEND trainee for the Class of 2024! When I’m not in school, you will find me cooking and baking, hammocking outside, and finding cool restaurants to eat at.

I love the beach, swimming and anime. I am always happy to talk so feel free to reach out to me!
