B.S. Marine Biology, Roger Williams University (2019)
I am originally from Burnt Hills, NY and I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Roger Williams University in 2019. I’ve always been passionate about science and working with people, but I didn’t discover the field of genetic counseling until 2022. At the time, I was a fellow with the Association of Public Health Laboratories, stationed at the New Jersey Department of Health in Ewing, NJ. My work involved implementing next-generation sequencing for clinical influenza samples, and I had the opportunity to rotate through several lab specialties. During my first rotation in the newborn screening laboratory, I heard the term “genetic counselor” for the first time, and I was immediately intrigued. After shadowing counselors and learning more about the profession, I realized that genetic counseling was the ideal intersection of my interests and career aspirations.
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling and scuba diving. One of my favorite experiences was studying abroad in Australia and diving on the Great Barrier Reef. Before coming to UNCG, I had never lived in the South, but this is the fifth state that I have lived in! I also love hiking, exploring coffee shops in Greensboro, going for walks, and attending outdoor yoga classes to relax. If you’re a prospective student with questions about lab experiences or navigating multiple gap years before graduate school, feel free to contact me!
