Randi Stewart and family

After graduation, Randi accepted a 10 month temporary position at Fullerton Genetics Center in Asheville, NC where she counseled patients in pediatric, prenatal, adult and cancer genetics specialties. In pursuit of adventure and perspective, she moved to Brisbane in Queensland, Australia in 2003 as a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar. Randi enjoyed speaking to rotary clubs about genetic counseling and family health history and engaging with the genetics community in Queensland while backpacking across Australia and New Zealand. Upon her return, Randi worked at Duke Prenatal for over seven years, primarily at a Greensboro satellite clinic while occasionally covering clinics in Raleigh, Burlington and Danville, VA via telehealth. For the last year, she transitioned to working at Duke MFM in Durham. It was a gift to learn from each site, team of providers and patient population in such diverse clinic settings. While at Duke Prenatal, Randi grew in her involvement with genetic counseling students and other medical learners. She worked with students on their Capstone projects, provided lectures, and served on the External Advisory Committee. Her love for clinical supervision and the desire to educate and develop students more directly led her back “home” to the UNCG Genetic Counseling Program where she has served as Assistant Program Director since 2011. Since then, Randi has been “living the dream” bringing clinic to the classroom, mentoring students one-on-one as they self-discover in all the ways, coordinating fieldwork experiences, and routinely engaging with interested applicants. She is grateful to still provide direct patient care in pediatric genetics at Cone Health, supervise GC students in clinic, and is thrilled with the recent expansion to a full time peds genetics service at Cone! It has been blessing for her to experience the alignment of this position, with this incredible team, with these amazing students, in this community!
