Hello! My name is Genevieve Kynoch and I am from Tallahassee, Florida. I first learned about genetic counseling during my junior year of high school and have been pursuing a career in this field ever since. I have always enjoyed learning about the human body and how it functions. In addition, I have always been someone who greatly enjoys helping and supporting others. Both of these passions drew me to the profession, as I feel genetic counseling is a perfect way to combine them! As I began learning more about the profession, what ultimately solidified my passion for the field was the uniqueness of the care this service can provide. It is an honor to walk alongside someone through what could be one of the most difficult or uncertain parts of their life and have the ability to offer them emotional support in combination with clinical expertise.

During my undergraduate experience, I completed a year-long internship with an MFM Geneticist in Tallahassee and volunteered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In my gap year, I had the opportunity to work as a Genetic Counseling Assistant at the University of Florida Pediatric Genetics and Metabolism Clinic. While at UF, I had the opportunity to learn more about the many specialty clinics housed there, such as the craniofacial multidisciplinary clinic and lysosomal storage disease clinic. I also volunteered with the Ronald McDonald house in Gainesville and worked as a weekly kid’s club leader and one-on-one math tutor through GiGi’s Playhouse.

In my free time, I love trying out new coffee shops, exploring nature trails, making new recipes, and catching up with friends. Most recently, I have been trying out different four-ingredient meals from Trader Joe’s! I am happy to speak with any prospective student who has questions or would like to learn more about my experience as a UNCG student – please reach out!
