Kristy Lee, Class of 2002

Kristy got her start at Greenwood Genetics Center, where she was a clinical and lab counselor, which was an amazing experience. She has been working at UNC Chapel Hill for the past 14 years. She began working in a 50/50 split clinical and research position, where she saw cancer and adult patients and managed ongoing research projects. Since then, she’s had the opportunity to create some of her own research projects and has focused in on her two clinical specialties, which are hematology and retinal diseases. She has also become very involved in exome sequencing projects, variant curation and actionability of secondary findings. Kristy now spends two-thirds of her time working for the ClinGen Consortium where she serves as a coordinator, key liaison and/or expert on several ClinGen working groups. Finally, Kristy continues to lecture and serve on capstone committees and advisory boards for the UNCG GC program, which she is honored to do.

On a personal note, Kristy and her husband, Trey, live in Cary. She has two amazing teenage stepsons Owen (15) and Jack (17) and one four-legged son Aengus, a 5-year-old Irish Thoroughbred.
