Hi there! My name is Sherilynn Knight, and I am so happy to be a part of this program! I was born and raised in Fayetteville, NC, and graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCAT) where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2019. Then, I completed my Masters of Science in Human Genetics and Genomics at Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS) in 2023. Interestingly, I discovered genetic counseling while sitting in one of my graduate courses, and ultimately became attracted to genetic counselor’s role in healthcare and their influence on the patient experience.

After graduating from NCAT, I worked as a genetic counseling assistant in the oncology and accessioning departments at Natera and GeneDx, respectively. I feel incredibly fortunate that because of Natera and GeneDx, I had the opportunity to participate in virtual shadowing experiences. These experiences were invaluable especially during the height of the COVID pandemic! The sessions were were impactful, eye-opening, and really helped solidify my understanding of genetic counseling.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing chess, spending time with loved ones, and relaxing! Please don’t hesitate to reach out about anything, but I may be especially apt to answer questions about returning to school after several years, pivoting to a new field, and being a minority student in genetic counseling.
