Brief Bio

Greetings! My name is Alexis, and I am so excited to be studying genetic counseling at UNCG! I grew up in Maryland and was pulled to the mountains of Colorado for my B.S. in nutrition. For my undergraduate thesis, I worked with Drosophila to investigate the impact of zinc intake on Alzheimer’s Disease. While I loved lab-work, I realized that I wanted to be involved in people’s lives on a deeper level. I considered nearly every career in science and health until I found out about genetic counseling. I was thrilled to see genetics complemented with the emotional considerations that are so pertinent as this field is applied to human health. I moved back to Maryland for an internship at the National Institutes of Health studying secondary genetic findings (shout out to my amazing supervisors and co-workers!) before hopping down to NC for this program.

Aside from school, I love climbing, volleyball, swimming in any body of water available, and just being outside in nature. Feel free to send me a message if you are interested in genetic counseling, no matter how squiggly your path is!
