Adam Buchanan and family

Adam Buchanan spent 10 years at the Duke Cancer Institute after graduating from UNCG. While there he helped to set up telehealth cancer genetics clinics in rural North Carolina and led associated research. In 2014 he moved (remotely) to Geisinger Health, where as an assistant professor in the Genomic Medicine Institute he has led research studies on genomic screening for actionable disease, genetic counseling outcomes and liquid biopsy for early cancer detection. In 2020 (mid-pandemic!) he moved his family to central PA when he was promoted to Director of the Genomic Medicine Institute. He has been active in genetic counseling professional societies, including serving as president of ABGC in 2020 and current service on NSGC’s Jane Engelberg Memorial Fellowship Advisory Group.

Outside of work and volunteering, he and his wife Holly manage all of the activities associated with having a 12-year-old daughter (Megan), 9-year-old son (Gavin) and 2-year-old hound mix (Duncan). He sneaks out for a bike ride on central PA’s rolling back roads whenever he can squeeze it in.
