Our program is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and proficiency to practice as genetic counselors in a variety of settings, including non-clinical and clinical prenatal, pediatric, adult, and cancer genetics. Our mission is to provide an exemplary learning environment for you to obtain the knowledge, skills, and competencies to provide culturally sensitive, ethical genetic counseling services in a variety of clinical settings.

Fieldwork & Clinical TrainingRequired supervised fieldwork supports development of clinical knowledge, counseling skills, and professional competencies across multiple practice settings.
Curriculum & InstructionInstruction is provided by interdisciplinary faculty and guest lecturers and includes advising, mentoring, laboratory work, clinical rotations, and collaborative learning.
Workshops & Professional ExposureStudents participate in graduate workshops, first-year observations, optional summer experiences (including non-traditional roles), and activities connected to NC Medical Genetics Association and NSGC.
Capstone ProjectAll students complete a research-based capstone, which may be a case study, literature synthesis, community/public health project, or original research.
AttritionOne student has withdrawn in the past three years for personal reasons (1 of 24 students; 4.1% attrition).
